The first step to working with us is to contact Senior Editor Pat Gaines. As noted on the Submissions page, we only work with resident USA citizens. Also, please note that artwork must be 100% original.

PICTURE BOOK ILLUSTRATIONS:
The best way to understand the kinds of picture books we publish is to check out some of the titles in the Kittycat Books catalog. At this time the maximum page count in a finished book is 24 pages, which includes a TITLE and a CREDITS page. Layouts vary by story. Some stories are done in single-page illustrations. Some are done in double-page spreads.

FICTION & NON-FICTION ARTWORK:
Occasionally, we hire artists to create illustrations for genre fiction and non-fiction covers and interiors. These kinds of illustrations are always done through work-for-hire contracts, which vary by project.

ARTWORK FILES:
During the contract process, the publisher and artist will go over the illustration file requirements for the title in question. It is the artist's responsibility to keep their own back-up copies of all artwork. If the artist is providing digital files, then all illustrations must sent to the publisher in full color RGB (Red-Green-Blue) TIF. Do not scan in CMYK, as that affects the quality of the files.

ARTWORK MEDIA:
Artists may create the illustrations in any desired medium, as long as the final pre-approved artwork is sent to the publisher in the agreed file specifications. Because all of our books and materials are printed with high-quality POD (print-on-demand) processes, some artwork methods work better than others. Some artists submit art created completely on the computer. For artists who work in physical media, we strongly suggest watercolors, acrylics, or pastels, as these methods work best with our printing options.
