"The Elf Child, second in the Clan Elves of the Bitterroot Series, can be read as a stand-alone, but is probably a richer reading experience if read in sequence. Lyndi Alexander has created a very interesting story that occupies a rather unique niche in the fantasy genre; not exactly urban fantasy, but with hints of same. I like her main characters, but like the secondary ones even more. Former wards of the state Lane and Crispy are unique and extremely likable. The overall story, which could have gotten sloppy at a couple of points, avoids falling into traditional pitfalls and instead, flows along, smoothly at times and with an urgency at others which grabs the reader and pulls him/her along in a page-turning frenzy as her well-crafted world grows real enough to create a nice movie in one’s mind. I am certainly looking forward to the third installment in the series and plan to go back and read the first one so I can have a complete understanding of what happened to set up this book. The Elf Child is highly recommended for fantasy readers who like a contemporary setting and plenty of action." ~ reviewed by John R. Clark (public librarian) for TCM Reviews "The first book in this amazing series, The Elf Queen, took readers on a truly fantastic journey through the worlds of human and elf. As we begin the second book, Jelani is the new Queen of the Clan Elves living in the majestic Bitterroot mountains. Having been raised as a human, Jelani is slowly learning the ways of her new world, and being taught all she needs to know by ‘The Circle’ - a group who govern the Clan. Astan Hawk is the consort to the Queen. He first fell in love with Jelani when he saved her from peril in the first book, and does his job every day protecting her from the horrific people/elves who will try desperately to bring her down.... As the Clan goes to war once again, Astan Hawk must protect his love, fight for his child, and thwart his enemy - not to mention figure out if his own ‘Circle’ has been infiltrated by evil. Every page of The Elf Child is packed with mystical, imaginative, phenomenal plots and characters that will spark every readers’ imagination. As Ms. Alexander heads into the final book of her series, The Elf Mage, fans can only wonder who will be left standing when the Clan Elves of the Bitterroot come to an end. " ~ reviewed by Feathered Quill [FIVE STARS] "I really enjoyed reading The Elf Child. Having grown up in the area, it's been a pleasure to read Alexander's interpretation of the area. The characters are well-rounded and entertaining, from the Elf Queen and her mate/true love, to their close and neurotic friends. This book carried more suspense and it will be hard to wait for the next book to come out!" ~ reviewed by Jeffrey A. Caler [FIVE STARS] "Lyndi Alexander's second novel in her series, Clan Elves of the Bitterroot: The Elf Child, is a winner. The protagonist of The Elf Queen gives birth, and all kinds of mystery surround the pregnancy, as well as danger, both to the mother and the babe. If you have read and enjoyed Brandon Mull's Fablehaven series about fairies and magic, you will love Alexander's books about elves. Suspense abounds, with danger lurking around every tree in the forest. I truly couldn't stop reading!" ~ reviewed by Dr. Jane Nixon White [FOUR STARS] |

within the clan, Astan has no choice but to ask Jelani's human friends for help.
But paranoid hermit Crispy, empathetic social worker Iris, and computer whiz
Lane complicate Jelani's unexpected pregnancy and her attempts to rule the clan.
