EAN-13 vs. ISBN-10
As of January 1, 2007, the book industry shifted from 10-digit ISBNs to 13-digit EANs. As book editions are updated in various printing and distribution systems, the 10-digit ISBNs will phase out in favor of the 13-digit EANs. Both numbers represent the same book. When in doubt about which number to use, search by a book’s title, author, or current publisher. Some retailer databases also refer to the EAN or ISBN as an ASIN or SKU.

ASIN = Assigned Standard Identification Number [In-house product code]
EAN = International Article Number (13-digits) [European Article Number]
ISBN = International Standard Book Number (10-digits) [Books]
ISSN = International Standard Serial Number [Periodicals]
SKU = Stock Keeping Unit [In-house product code]
UPC = Universal Product Code
